New avenues to the future.

 

Boldly and innovatively breaking new ground—the EQS produced at the “Virtual Production Studios” in Munich.

Delivering a high-quality staging of the electric flagship EQS was a challenge, what with the global pandemic, the need for absolute secrecy, and the winter season.

Together with our director Jan Radt, we decided to use the Hyperbowl in Munich for production of driving footage for the EQS world premiere trailer—and this was also a premiere for such an elaborate virtual production. This was the first time that such high-quality driving footage was created on this scale. With digital processing invisible to the viewer, this work showed us new possibilities for the future.

Hyperbowl Production Studio, Munich

 

 

Challenge accepted.

 

Producing in a virtual studio, presenting a stationary, real vehicle in motion in order to create realistic driving footage was the big challenge here. Lavishly pre-produced CGI sets were displayed on impressive 360º LED screens. Thanks to intelligent sensors on the free-moving cameras we were able to coordinate the perspective of realistic set reflections and the stationary vehicle and synch them up with each other. Only roads and moving wheels were added in post-production. In this way, people, objects and places merge into a single homogeneous image that makes it impossible to distinguish between real and digital with the naked eye.
